Our Mission

We are women concerned for the preservation of our democratic ideals, norms, and traditions. We stand to Protect public education, voter rights, and women's rights. We resolve to preserve our vital democratic institutions: A free press, free and fair elections, and an impartial and uncorrupted judiciary. We are committed to our Constitutional and traditional American values. We believe in diversity, the separation of church and state, the rule of law and freedom from censorship in our schools and in our public libraries.

WE was formed by retired and current educators and other women concerned about the direction Oklahoma politics and policies were taking during the mid-term election campaigns in 2022. Out of the many concerns voiced by the founding members at our beginning meetings, WE members chose to meet as a nonpartisan, Progressive group and to focus on the five key areas stated in our mission.

WE meets monthly on the last Thursday of the month at 4:30 PM in the Rogers County Building, 41 6 S. Brady, on the EXPO grounds in Claremore, OK, unless otherwise announced. We are funded by dues, donations, and fundraisers. Members receive a monthly newsletter.

Our Focus Areas

Censorship

All sources report massive surges in attempts to ban books from public libraries and school libraries and curricula. We have witnessed the book banning mania in our own communities and throughout our state. WE members stand strong in resisting these attacks and in defining our cherished freedom to read.

Education

Public education continues to be a concern of Oklahoma citizens. Many of our members are current or retired teachers, so we are aware and support current issues--censorship, class size, and the true impact of school choice.

Sensible Gun Legislation

We support sensible gun laws to include funding for mental health evaluations and treatment, universal background checks, mandatory licensing for gun ownership, safe storage laws, and "red-flag" laws to protect victims of domestic violence and remove weapons from those who pose a risk to themselves and/or others.

Voter Rights

Voter suppression and lack of voter turnout are at historical highs. We want to see that these numbers come down. If our values are to be represented, our voices must be heard. A pool of informed people casting votes is extremely important to ensure educated, qualified leaders in office. Voter rights is one of WE’s key issues.

Women's Rights

Women's rights are a very important cornerstone of democracy. Be part of honoring the great women that spoke up and established women's right to vote! Join us in speaking up about the rights of women's reproductive health care that is being threatened now.
